Cozumel Time Change, Effective Feb 1st 2015

Well after years of debate the state of Quintana Roo is finally getting its own time zone!  Well, kinda.  Anyway let me give you a little background as pertaining to what is going down here in Cozumel and Quintana Roo as of February 1st 2015.  Hopefully this will make your Cozumel Cruise or Cozumel vacation a little more entertaining and maybe a little bit more “confusing,” I mean easier to plan.

For a couple of years now a number of overzealous Hoteliers and Government officials have been leading a campaign to vote to change Quintana Roo´s time zone an hour ahead matching Eastern Standard Time. Cozumel Time Change Reasons for their motivation in leading this campaign has been to give tourists a little more daylight and more time to enjoy their Cozumel Activities and yes spend a little more money.  If you have been to Cozumel before you may know that Cozumel is one of the first places that the Sun rises and sets in this Hemisphere so this could be a welcome change assuring a little more daylight to spend on the beach etc.

Another thing to consider and will make a big impact is the fact that the majority of the Cruises to Cozumel to sail out of Florida and many of them due to this normally have a 1hr time difference with Cozumel when they arrive which causes some confusion for the rookie cruisers but the norm for veteran cruisers.  No for those ships we will be on the same time.  While this is a welcome bit of news for cruisers sailing out of Florida there will be some confusion for cruisers coming on cruise ships sailing out of Houston, Galveston and New Orleans as those ships have always been on the same time as Cozumel and will now be 1hr behind local time upon arrival.

Not surprising this has been quite confusing for many people recently and not just for tourists but also for locals.  Everyone is making prepartions and the hustle and bustle of the normal cruise day will go on as normal and for those wondering Wild Tours Cozumel will be maintaining their normal tour times as everyone adjusts to the new local time.

Now I have been on the web and going through forums and I have noticed a lot of confusion for tourists in regards to Daylight Savings Time.  I have to clarify that this is not a Daylight Savings Time change that is going to happen on Feb 1st it is a PERMANENT Time change so make your Cozumel Vacation Plans accordingly same goes for anyone visiting the Riviera Maya.  Now since this is a permanent time change we will be going on Daylight Savings Time the first weekend in April and this being the case means that the USA is going on Daylight Savings time the first weekend in March!  Yes that means the first 2 months of this new schedule may be even more confusing.

Well there you have it, so be sure to pay attention when planning your Cozumel Activities and Cozumel Tours so as to make sure you have enough time to complete those Cozumel Tours and not miss your cruise ship.  So with all that Wild Tours is glad to give you some Cozumel Travel Tips so that you have an excellent visit to Cozumel and the Riviera Maya.  If you have any questions feel free to comment on the post or send me a message my contact info is here on the website.
